Creating Creative Digital Photographs

When it comes to photography there are two very different parts of the mind that are used:

1. The Technical part
This part is used for various photographic necessities such as shutter speed, aperture, light meter readings, finding the distance reading, focusing properly, etc.

2. The Creative Side
The creative side of photography is where your individual style of photographing will come to play. It is how you create the photo and compose it. The meanings of the photograph are creative as well.

Here’s the deal with photos. You can have extremely great technical skills but if you don’t have any creativity your photos will be nothing. Creativity is key and that is why photography is considered an art form. If it were all technical or the majority technical then it would not be an art form.

Taking amazing photos does not require expensive equipment or anything like that at all. Think of some famous photos that are very popular. I’ve seen very popular photos that were not the best quality or done very technically great but had a very strong message. Think about all the photos of historical events and such. Many of those photos are simple and not technically amazing but the story being told in those photos is so valuable that the photos themselves become very valuable.

If you want to take better photos first you will need to learn how to take more creative photos. Have a message to give in the photo. Ask yourself what you are saying through this photo. It doesn’t have to be a deep dramatic message. The message can be something like “happiness” or “pleasure”.

The good thing about being creative is that once you start thinking of ideas more ideas will be bred from those original ideas. The hard part is finding the ideas to start with. Stick with it and eventually you will be having a hard time actually completing all the ideas you come up with.
Of course, having technical expertise is also great for photography. Having both great technical skills as well as creative skills that match or are superior will make you an amazing photographer.
